We were recently contracted on short notice to upgrade the First Team Rugby’s cloakrooms for Melkbos High School.

The brief was to demolish to walls, a shower and a shower floor in the existing cloakroom. Then to create a new door opening to allow the boys to exit the cloakrooms straight into the school quad and not through the cafeteria. The fact that the school’s external walls are built out of a face brick that is extremely difficult to find added another layer of complexity.

This forced our team to carry out the demolition works with extreme care in order to harvest enough usable bricks out of the section of brickwork we cut out to form the door opening. Internal walls and ceilings were repaired and skimmed

Most of the work had to be completed after hours as the students only came out at 14h30 which meant a couple of late nights for the team. We did however manage to complete the job in 4 shifts to meet the deadline.

Willie Delport and his in house maintenance team carried out the paint works and finished the room off with a beautiful wallpaper depicting the school’s colours and badge.

We wish the school and the team many happy and successful years in their new cloakroom.
